Incorporation Attempt Fails by a Wide Margin

On Tuesday, April 7, 2009, the voters in the Sugar Creek Hills proposed incorporation boundary went to the polls and decided incorporation wasn't worth the increased costs.

Many of us moved to Jefferson County to get away from the confines and restrictions of city life.

Town Hall Meetings Scheduled for March/April 2009

For those who have questions regarding the proposed incorporation and want to learn how it will impact their finances and way of life, please plan on attending the Town Hall Meetings that are scheduled to be held in the Sugar Creek Golf Course Clubhouse that is reserved on the following dates:

     à Wednesday, March 18, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
     à Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
     à Wednesday, April 1, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The April 7, 2009, election will put the Sugar Creek Hills initiative on the ballot for a vote.  The Town Hall Meetings will address the benefits and provide opportunities for discussion.  The presentation can be accessed by clicking on Town Hall Presentation.

Sugar Creek Hills Incorporation Proposal on April 7, 2009, Ballot

The Jefferson County Commissioners gave the approval for the Sugar Creek Hills Incorporation proposal to be placed on the April 7, 2009, ballot.  This will give the residents in the proposed boundaries the right to vote Yes or No for incorporation.  Only upon approval by the voters will the incorporation be a legal entity.

The last day to register to vote is Wednesday, March 11, 2009.  Please click on vote to find out more about registering. 

If you have already planned to be out of town April 7, you can vote absentee.  The deadline for submitting an absentee ballot is April 1, 2009.  To find out the details for voting absentee, please contact Jefferson County or access the Jefferson County website for more information.  To view the sample ballot for the April 7, 2009, election, click on ballot.

Petition Submitted to County

In 2008, the Sugar Creek Hills Working to be a City Committee updated and resubmitted their request for incorporation.  The County approved the proposal for placement on the April 7, 2009, ballot to provide the citizens an opportunity to vote on this issue.  The County approval did not approve the city incorporation . . . it only gave the approval for the issue to be placed on the ballot for a vote.

You may recall that a previous request was submitted August 21, 2007, to Jefferson County by the same group but it was declined due to insufficient descriptions and a boundary that was not closed. 

If you live in the proposed Sugar Creek Hills city boundary and are not registered to vote, you must be registered approximately one month prior to the election to participate.  To find out where to register, click on register.
